the all-too-familiar story…

…my baby is not sleeping well! I’m sleep-deprived and desperate for just one night of good sleep. I’ve tried whatever I can but she’s still waking up at least 3 times a night and she is wide awake at 6 in the morning…HELP!

Sound familiar? That is the story of countless parents, including unfortunately ME.

Netanya has not been sleeping well for past 3 nights and I can’t figure out why. She is not an excellent ’sleeper’ (some babies start sleeping through night at 3 months old), but I have been very contented with waking up only once a night to feed her and being able to get back to sleep right after that. I count myself lucky that I can go to bed at 10.30pm, wake up at around 2am for 15 minutes and then go back to slumberland until 7am. The only times when she didn’t sleep well were days when she was having runny nose. But last 3 nights were abnormal, she has alot of difficulty falling asleep and when she finally did, she didn’t stay asleep soundly. What’s going on? Wish someone could tell me why.

“Hey my baby, can you please sleep like a baby? Your mama really need a good night rest.”

Fall craft

Filed under: Educational activities — by rk1nf2 @ 4:18 pm

Thanks to crazymommy who shared this craft which I did with Russell today. We do not have beautiful fall colors here so I had to buy plastic leaves instead (from Target for only $1).  Russell is really proud of the finished product and through it I was able to explain to him about fall season.

Netanya is able to sit unsupported for brief moments now and she is really enjoying it.

Loves to eat…

see how 'clean' the chicken bone is

See how clean the chicken bone is!

While parents of many toddlers complain that their kids are picky and fussy when comes to food, I’m very lucky that Russell enjoys eating (most of the time).

Vegetables he likes: Broccoli, green beans, peas, carrots, corn, bell peppers, ‘you choy’, bean sprouts, green onions, cilantro, green leaf lettuce etc

Meats: chicken esp drumlets, pork, beef, duck, eggs, shrimp and fish

His favorite fruits: strawberries, cantaloupe, red seedless grapes, watermelon, apples and oranges

His favorite snacks: pretzels, goldfish, cheeses, anything that’s chocolate- covered, anything that resembles chips, sunflower seeds, nachos with guacamole, cookies and raisins

So it is quite easy to prepare a meal for him or even bring him out to eat, since he will eat basically whatever we order. Recently he became a little adventurous and was willing to try spicy food! He could take a little ground pepper in his food but chili ‘burns’ his tongue and he didn’t like it. But I think when he gets older and his taste buds get accustomed to spiciness, he will eventually enjoy spicy foods like his daddy and mommy. Laksa, mee siam, mee rebus and chili crabs are too good to be missed out, how can we not like spicy food!

Starting solid

Filed under: My Kiddos — by rk1nf2 @ 11:11 am

I have forgotten how difficult it was to feed a baby. To begin with, I had very little problem starting solid with Russell; he loved to eat (just like his old man). He started teething early too, around six months, so he was eager to chomp.

When I first started feeding Netanya a few weeks ago, it was such a mess! She blew raspberries and cereal was flying onto my face, on the floor, on the seat. Most of the cereal ended up everywhere else except where it should be (in her little mouth). As the days go by, it got better. Now she’s more interested in eating, but she’s so easily distracted, it takes a sharp-shooter to aim the spoon into the ever-moving target. The trick is, always make more than what she can eat because a third of that will be caked on her face.
