Russell, the pilot

Filed under: My Kiddos — by rk1nf2 @ 1:31 pm

Russell is obsessed with the idea that he’s going to be a pilot when he grows up. Needless to say, his pretend-plays are usually about him flying a plane. Sometimes he flies a fighter jet that can fire missiles and can track enemies with radar. Sometimes he flies a “477 (747) jumbo jet that can carry more than 400 passengers and can fly for more than 8000 miles“. Whenever he’s flying a jumbo jet, his sister is his co-pilot and I am the passenger onboard. I have to sit at a designated seat and when the plane has taken off I will be given drinks and toys (hmmm…quite good service!).

He made a fighter jet using mega blocks. This jet has two guns mounted on it’s wings. Pretty impressive, huh?

a sweet moment

妹妹was being difficult one afternoon, I was getting a little frustrated.

Russell: I know what I can do…

I did not pay attention to him, I was too busy dealing with the little toddler who was crying and kicking her legs because she refused to drink her milk from a sippy cup.

Russell: Mama, I know what I can do to make you happy, I can draw a picture for you.

He ran to get his crayons and paper and started drawing. Moments later, he came to me with this picture, “This is for you, mommy.”  I was so touched, my frustration melted away instantly. He was so sweet and thoughtful, I couldn’t ask for more.

He drew me a flower and even personalized it by writing my name on it. He also found some heart-shaped stickers and decorated it, I thought that was a really nice touch.

“Thank you so much, Russell.”

What’s more fun than a new toy….

…the packaging that it came in!  Russell’s very doting daddy bought him a huge toy tractor trailer complete with a front loader and backhoe.

Parenting tip: Never throw away big boxes like these, they make great ’toys’, these 2 had fun playing with this box for days!

Happy Father’s Day!

Filed under: My Kiddos — by rk1nf2 @ 10:42 pm

On behalf of our kiddos, I wish their beloved (Oooohhhh…..) Dada, a very happy father’s day.

These are the art work that the kids did for their daddy. The message on Russell’s painting was Russell’s very own handwriting! Don’t ask me what Netanya drew, most of the paint was on her instead of the paper, but she did try to paint something. One thing  I’m absolutely sure about, their messages are the same:

“We love you, daddy.”

It really works!

When I read in crazymommy’s blog about applying vicks on the feet then covering them with socks as an alternative nightime cough remedy, I was really excited and immediately shared that information with my hubby. He was very skeptical and thought it was an old wives’ tale. In fact, Russell who overheard our conversation burst out laughing and said, “You are so funny, mama! How can you put vicks on the feet, it’s for the chest!” Then my hubby gave me the kind of look that said “Look, even your 3 year old son thinks that was a silly idea.” Well, to me, I was willing to give it a try, especially when other mothers sweared by it, there must be some truth about it.

4 days ago, Russell came down with a cold, he was coughing through the night even when we gave him cough syrup and ran the humidifier in his room. The next night, I suggested to Russell to let me rub vicks on his feet and put socks on for him before he went to bed. I promised him that we would try for 2 nights, if this method did not help to reduce his nightime cough, we would forget about it. And so amidst the giggling and wriggling, I managed to massage his feet with vicks and he slept with his socks on. Amazingly, it really worked. I didn’t hear him cough at all that night, so was the next and the next! Wow, I was surprised by the result. Finally, I proved my skeptical hubby and son wrong.

Thanks, crazymommy, for sharing this.
